Frequently Asked Questions - HNPL200P4 Hamlet

What is the HNPL200P4 used for?
The HNPL200P4 is a Powerline Surge Power Strip with a 4-port Ethernet hub. It allows you to create a wired network connection using your home's electrical wiring, while also providing surge protection for connected devices.
Can I plug the HNPL200P4 into a power strip or UPS?
No, do not plug the HNPL200P4 into a power strip, surge protector, or UPS. These devices often contain filters that can impair the Powerline signal and reduce performance. Plug it directly into a wall outlet.
How do I set up a Powerline network with the HNPL200P4?
Simply connect the HNPL200P4 to your router via Ethernet, then plug it into a wall outlet. For additional devices, use another Powerline adapter (e.g., Hamlet HNPL200MS) in another room. The devices will automatically detect each other over your home's electrical wiring.
What is the maximum distance between Powerline devices?
The maximum distance over AC wiring is 200 meters. Exceeding this may cause signal degradation or data loss.
Does the HNPL200P4 support encryption?
Yes, it supports 128-bit AES link encryption with optional key management to secure your data transmission over the powerline.
What operating systems are compatible?
The HNPL200P4 works with Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP/Vista, Mac, and Linux operating systems. No special drivers are needed.
How many devices can be connected in a Powerline network?
The network supports up to 4096 addressable devices, allowing for a large number of connections across multiple Powerline adapters.
What do the LED indicators mean?
Power: On when powered. PL-ACT: On when a Powerline adapter is detected, blinking with traffic. LAN1-LAN4: On when an Ethernet device is linked, blinking with traffic.
Can I use the HNPL200P4 as a wireless extender?
Yes, you can connect a wireless access point (AP) to one of the Ethernet ports to extend your Wi-Fi network. The Powerline connection provides the backbone.
How do I clean the HNPL200P4?
Unplug the device and use a damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use liquid cleaners, aerosol sprays, or immerse in water.
