Frequently Asked Questions - OCS-FAC Vello

How do I attach the Vello OCS-FAC flash to my camera?
Slide the flash's hot shoe mount onto your camera's hot shoe until it clicks. Secure it by tightening the locking ring or knob. Ensure it is compatible with your camera's brand (Canon, Nikon, Sony, etc.).
What type of batteries does the OCS-FAC flash use and how long do they last?
The flash uses 4 AA batteries (alkaline, NiMH, or lithium). Battery life varies: typically 200-1500 flashes depending on power output and battery type. Rechargeable NiMH batteries are recommended for frequent use.
Can I use the OCS-FAC flash wirelessly?
Yes, it supports optical slave mode and can be triggered by another flash. For radio triggers, use a compatible receiver attached to the flash's sync port.
What is the maximum sync speed for this flash?
The flash supports high-speed sync up to 1/8000s when used with a compatible camera in HSS mode. In normal mode, sync speed is typically 1/200s to 1/250s.
How do I clean and maintain the flash?
Wipe the exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Clean the battery contacts and hot shoe with an eraser if needed. Store in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing to moisture or extreme temperatures.
What do the different flash modes mean?
TTL mode uses the camera's metering for automatic exposure. Manual mode lets you set power from 1/128 to full. Multi mode stroboscopic flash. Slave mode triggers from another flash.
How do I set the zoom on the flash head?
The flash automatically zooms to match your lens focal length (24-105mm). You can manually adjust zoom via the control buttons. The LCD shows the current zoom setting.
Why is the flash recycling slowly?
Slow recycle time indicates weak or depleted batteries. Replace with fresh high-capacity NiMH batteries. The recycle time also increases at higher power outputs.
Can I use the flash off-camera?
Yes, use a sync cord or wireless trigger. The flash has a PC sync port for wired connection. For wireless, use optical slave mode or a radio trigger.
What should I do if the flash overheats?
The flash has a thermal protection feature. If it overheats, it will automatically disable and the LCD will show an error. Turn it off, remove batteries, and let it cool for 10-15 minutes before reuse.

THANK YOU FOR CHOOSING VELLO

The Vello OCS-FAC/ OCS-FAN is a flexible rod with an integrated TTL cable that mounts directly to your camera's hot shoe. Ideal for macro and portrait photography, it allows photographers of all levels to experiment with flash angles while maintaining all of the TTL flash functionality of the camera.

The TTL rod sets your flash off-camera and enables you to achieve a more natural or dramatic look. It also reduces the harsh shadows of a direct, on-camera flash as well as the possibility of red-eye when shooting in dim light. The gooseneck design of this TTL rod makes it possible to be creative with flash angles either from above or the side. But once you've decided on an angle, the sturdy metal construction assures that your flash will stay in place while you shoot.
