Frequently Asked Questions - Headphone Amp Electro Harmonix

How do I power the Electro Harmonix Headphone Amp?
The amplifier can be powered by a 9V battery (standard 6F22) inserted into the battery compartment, or by an optional 9V DC adapter with center negative polarity and 2.1mm plug.
Can I use this amplifier with both electric guitars and headphones?
Yes. The Headphone Amp is designed to be connected between your instrument and your headphones. Simply plug your guitar cable into the input jack and your headphones into the output jack.
What type of headphones should I use?
Any standard headphones with a 1/4" (6.35mm) plug will work. For best results, use headphones with an impedance between 32Ω and 300Ω. The amplifier provides enough power for most headphones.
How long does the battery last?
With a standard alkaline 9V battery, you can expect approximately 20 hours of continuous use. Actual battery life may vary depending on volume level and headphone impedance.
Does the Headphone Amp color the sound?
The Electro Harmonix Headphone Amp is designed to be transparent and neutral, providing a clean amplification without altering the original tone of your instrument.
Can I use this amplifier with a bass guitar?
Yes. The frequency response extends down to 20 Hz, making it suitable for bass guitars as well as standard electric guitars.
Is there an on/off switch?
No. The amplifier is powered on when a cable is plugged into the input jack and turns off when the cable is removed. This helps save battery life.
What should I do if the sound is distorted?
First, check the battery level. A low battery can cause distortion. Also, ensure the volume knob is not turned up too high. If the problem persists, try a different cable or headphones.
Can I use this amplifier with an MP3 player or smartphone?
Yes, you can connect a line-level source like an MP3 player to the input jack using a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter. However, the amplifier is optimized for instrument-level signals and may require volume adjustment.
How do I clean the Headphone Amp?
Wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use any liquids, solvents, or abrasive cleaners. Avoid getting moisture into the jacks or battery compartment.
