Frequently Asked Questions - ASG-GFK Ozito

What type of paint can I use with the Ozito ASG-GFK?
You can use water-based, latex, or oil-based paints. However, thinning may be required for thicker paints to achieve a smooth spray. Always follow the paint manufacturer's recommendations.
How do I adjust the spray pattern?
Rotate the air cap or adjust the pattern control knob located on the gun. This allows you to switch between round, horizontal, and vertical fan patterns.
How to clean the paint gun after use?
Disassemble the gun, remove the cup and nozzle. Soak parts in an appropriate solvent (water for water-based paints, mineral spirits for oil-based). Use the included brush to clean, then blow dry with compressed air.
Why is my paint gun spitting or splattering?
Common causes: clogged nozzle, paint too thick, or low pressure. Clean the nozzle, thin the paint, and increase the air pressure to 30-50 PSI.
What air pressure should I use?
Operate at 30-50 PSI. Adjust based on paint viscosity and desired finish. Always check your compressor's output and the gun's specifications.
Can I use this paint gun with a small air compressor?
Yes, but ensure the compressor provides sufficient CFM (cubic feet per minute) to maintain pressure. A 2-3 HP tank compressor typically works well.
How do I thin paint for this gun?
Use a viscosity cup to measure consistency. For most paints, thin until it flows through the cup in 20-30 seconds. Follow the paint manufacturer's thinning instructions.
Why is the spray uneven?
Uneven spray can result from a dirty nozzle, incorrect pressure, or paint too thick. Clean the nozzle, adjust pressure to 40 PSI, and thin the paint if needed.
How to replace the nozzle?
Unscrew the nozzle retaining nut using the provided wrench. Remove the old nozzle, install the new one, and tighten securely. Ensure the seal is intact.
Is this a HVLP paint gun?
No, the Ozito ASG-GFK is a conventional spray gun. For HVLP, look for a model specifically labeled High Volume Low Pressure.

2. PREPARATION

NOTE: FOR BEST RESULTS, SURFACE PREPARATION AND PAINT THINNING ARE THE TWO MOST IMPORTANT AREAS. ENSURE ALL SURFACES ARE FREE OF DUST, DIRT AND GREASE.

Thinning

Thinning is particularly important when spraying. Most paints are supplied ready for brush application and need to be diluted sufficiently for spraying purposes.

Follow the manufacturers guide for thinning ratios which should be labelled on the paint container.

1 Before pouring any paint or thinners work out how much of each substance is needed.

THINNER PAINT

2 Pour the required paint and thinners through a filter into a mixing cup and then mix thoroughly.

THINNERS PAINT

3 Once the correct viscosity is obtained, pour the mixture into the paint pot.

natural_image Diagram showing a funnel pouring liquid into a container with red arrows indicating direction (no text or symbols)

Helpful Hints

  1. Maintain the same distance from workpiece (approx 15cm) throughout each pass.
  2. Maintain the same speed throughout each pass.
  3. Always allow a coat to completely dry before adding another coat.
  4. Avoid stopping and starting in the middle of workpiece as this can lead to a patchy finish.

NOTE: After each use it is essential that the spray gun is cleaned thoroughly. Failure to do so will likely cause blockages which will prevent the tool from working. FAILURE TO CLEAN THE TOOL WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.

CLEANING PROCEDURE TROUBLI

If coating material was water based (acrylic paint), use ONLY water when performing the cleaning procedure. Use of solvent based cleaning materials on water based paints will result in a new substance that will be extremely difficult to clean.

If coating material was oil based (enamel paint, lacquer etc.) use ONLY the appropriate cleaning solution. Read the cleaning instructions printed on the coating material's label to determine which cleaning material you need. The following solvent based cleaning products are safe to use in the paint sprayer:

• Diggers Easy Cleanup Turpentine Substitute (highly recommended)
- Mineral Turpentine
- Paint Thinner

SPRAYING TECHNIQUE

  1. Move the gun with the entire arm, not by flexing the wrist. This will keep the spray gun at right angles to the surface, keeping the pattern even.

Diagram showing three triangular shapes with dashed lines and a red 'X' symbol, likely indicating a failure or error.

  1. Keep the spray gun perpendicular to the surface, so spray distance is consistent.
