Connecting the appliance
Afterinstallingtheappliance, waitatleast 1 houruntiltheappliancestartsup. Duringtransportationtheoilinthe compressormayhaveflowedintothe refrigerationsystem.
Beforeswitchingontheapplianceforthe firsttime,cleantheinterior(see Cleaning).
Thesocketshouldbefreelyaccessible.
Connecttheapplianceto220-240 V/50 Hzalternatingcurrentviaacorrectly installedearthedsocket. Thesocketmust befusedwitha10 Ato16Afuse.
If the appliance is to be operated in a non-Europe country, check on the rating plate whether the indicated voltage and current type correspond to the values of your main supply. The rating plate is situated in the bottom left-hand side of the appliance. The power cord may bere placed by a technician only.

The climatic class can be found on the rating plate. Its specified the ambient temperatures at which the appliance may be operated. The rating plate can be found inside the appliance at the bottom left-hand side.

Operatingtips
- Thesidesofthehousingaresometimes heatedslightly. Thisprevents condensationintheareaofthedoor seal.
- If you cannot open the freezer compartment door immediately after closing it, wait 2–3 minutes until the partial vacuum hasequalised.
- Therefrigerationsystemmaycause severalareasofthefreezershelves to frostquickly. Thisdoesnotaffect functionorpowerconsumption. The appliancedoesnotrequire defrostinguntiltheentiresurfaceofthe freezershelfiscoveredwithmorethan 5 mmoffrostorice.
Usablecapacity
Informationontheusablecapacitycanbe foundinsideyourapplianceontherating plate.
Fullyutilisingthefreezer volume
Themaximumamountoffoodcanbe placedinthefreezerbyremovingseveral fittings. Thefoodcanbestackeddirectly onthefreezershelves.
Note
Tocomplywiththevaluesindicatedon theratingplate,thefittingsattheverytop andbottomshouldremaininthe appliance.

Ensure that the freezer compartment dooris always closed! If the door is open, the frozen food will thaw. The freezer compartment will become covered in a thick layer of ice. Also: energy will be wasted due to high power consumption!

If you are freezing food yourself, use only fresh, undamaged food.
The following foods a resuitable for freezing:
Meatandsausageproducts,poultryand game,fish,vegetables,herbs,fruit,cakes andpastries,pizza,readymeals, leftovers,eggyolkandegg-white.
The following foods are not suitable for freezing:
Eggsinshells,souredcreamand mayonnaise,greensalads,radishesand onions.
Blanchingvegetablesandfruit
Toretaincolour, flavour, aroma and vitamin C, vegetables and fruit should be blanched prioritofreezing. Blanchingisthebriefimmersion of vegetables and fruit in boiling water. Literature onfreezing and blanching is available in bookshops.
Makingicecubes
Ice-cubetraysareavailablefrom specialistoutlets.
Fillice-cubetray ^3/4 fullofwaterandplace inthefreezercompartment. Toloosenthe icecubes, holdice-cubetrayunder runningwaterortwistitslightly.
Freezingfood
Freezefresh, undamaged food only.
Keepfoodwhichistobefrozenaway fromfoodwhichisalreadyfrozen.
Topreventfoodfromlosingitsflavour or dryingout,placeinairtightcontainers.
Max.freezercapacity
Informationaboutthemax.freezing capacitywithin24 hourscanbefound on theratingplate.
Howtowrapfoodcorrectly:
- Placethefoodinthewrapping.
- Pressoutair.

The following products are suitable for sealing the wrapped food:
Rubberbands, plasticclips, string, cold-resistantadhesivetapeorsimilar. Bagsandpolyethyleneblownfilmcanbe sealedwithafilmsealer.
Shelflifeoffrozenfood
Dependsonthetypeoffood. Atatemperaturesettingof–18 °C:
- Fish, sausage, readymealsandcakes andpastries: upto6months
- Cheese, poultry and meat: upto 8 months
• Vegetablesandfruit: upto12months
Fastfreezing
Foodshouldbefrozensolidasquickly as possibleinordertoretainvitamins, nutritionalvalue,appearanceandflavour.
Topreventanundesirabletemperature risewhenplacingfreshfoodinthefreezer compartment,switchonfastfreeze severalhoursbeforehand.
Asarule, 4–6 hours is adequate. If max. freezing capacity is to be utilised, 24 hours are required.
Smallerquantitiesoffoodcanbefrozen withoutfastfreeze.

Dependingonthetypeoffoodand intendeduse,frozenproducecanbe defrosted:
- Atroomtemperature,

Note
DoNOTrefreezefoodwhichisbeginning todefrostor whichhasalreadydefrosted. Onlyfoodwhichissubsequentlyprepared (cookedorfried)mayberefrozen.
Nolongerstorethefrozenproduceforthe max.storageperiod.

Defrostingand cleaningthefreezer compartment

Donotuseabrasive, chlorideoracidic cleaningagentsorsolvents.
Donotusescouringorabrasivesponges. Themetallicsurfacesintheappliance couldcorrode.
Nevercleanshelvesandcontainersinthe dishwasher.Thepartsmaywarp!
Proceedasfollows:
- Beforecleaning: Switchoffthe appliance.
- Pulloutthemainsplugorswitchoffthe fuse!
- Placethefreezerdrawerscontainingthe foodinacoollocation.Placetheice block(ifenclosed)onthefood.
- Emptythebottomdrawerandleve in theappliancetocatchthe water Fig. 6.
- Toacceleratethedefrostingprocess, placetwopansofhotwateronabase intheappliance.
- Whenthefreezercompartmenthas defrosted, pourthewateroutofthe freezerdrawer. Wipeanyremaining wateroffthebottomofthefreezer compartmentwithasponge.
- Cleantheappliancewithasoftcloth, lukewarmwaterandalittlepHneutral washing-upliquid.Therinsingwater mustnotrunintothelight.
- Wipethedoorsealwithclearwateronly and thenwipedrythoroughly.
• Aftercleaningreconnectandswitchon theappliance.
Tipsforsavingenergy
- Installtheapplianceinacool,well ventilatedroom,butnotindirect sunlightandnotnearaheatsource (radiator,cooker,etc.).Otherwise, use aninsulatingplate.
- Allowwarmfoodanddrinkstocool downoutsidetheappliance.
- Whenthawingfrozenfood, placeitin therefrigeratorcompartment. Thelow temperatureofthefrozenfoodwill then coolthefoodintherefrigerator compartment.
- Opentheappliancedoorasbriefly as possible.
- Occasionallycleantherearofthe appliancewithavacuumcleaneror paintbrushtopreventanincreased powerconsumption.
- Observerequireddistanceof60 mmto thebackwall. Theheatedaircanthenescapewithout obstruction.
