Frequently Asked Questions - Smart Home Smoke Detector BOSCH

How do I install the Bosch Smart Home Smoke Detector?
Installation requires a Bosch Smart Home Controller and the Bosch Smart Home App. Start the app, select 'Add device', scan the QR code on the back of the smoke detector, and follow the in-app instructions. You can mount the detector on the ceiling using screws or the included adhesive strip. Ensure the emergency light points toward the escape route.
What should I do if the smoke detector alarms continuously?
If the alarm sounds repeatedly, press the operating button on the triggering device (identified by a red flashing LED) to mute all connected alarms. Smoke detection is then deactivated for 10 minutes. If the alarm persists without smoke, check for dust or a low battery (single beep every 43 seconds with red LED flash). Replace the detector if the battery is low (battery is not replaceable).
How often should I test the smoke detector?
Test the smoke detector monthly by briefly pressing the operating button or using the app. A successful test produces three audible beeps, a red flashing LED, and the emergency light illuminates. After the test, the LED flashes red every 10 seconds for 10 minutes. If these signals do not occur, the device is faulty and should be replaced.
Can I use the smoke detector without a Bosch Smart Home Controller?
No. The Bosch Smart Home Smoke Detector requires a Bosch Smart Home Controller and the Bosch Smart Home App for setup and operation. It cannot function as a standalone device without the controller.
How long does the battery last, and can I replace it?
The built-in lithium battery lasts a typical of >10 years under normal storage and use conditions ( -5°C to +30°C, monthly tests). The battery is not replaceable; the entire smoke detector must be replaced when the battery is depleted or after 10 years of use.
Where is the best location to mount the smoke detector?
Mount the detector on the ceiling in every bedroom, children's room, and hallway serving as an escape route. For maximum protection, also install in living areas, attics, and basements. Avoid locations near direct sunlight, heat/cold sources, or with less than 0.5 m clearance around the detector. Ensure the emergency light points towards the escape route.
What does the emergency light do, and how do I orient it?
The integrated emergency light illuminates the escape route during an alarm. During installation, align the mounting bracket so that the recessed marking for the emergency light (visible on the inside of the bracket) points toward the desired escape direction.
Is the smoke detector compatible with other smart home systems?
No. The smoke detector is designed to work exclusively with the Bosch Smart Home System using the Bosch Smart Home Controller. It cannot be used with other smart home platforms.
How do I clean and maintain the smoke detector?
Perform a monthly visual inspection. Clean the smoke inlet openings along the sides with a damp cloth if clogged by dust or dirt. Do not paint or wallpaper over the device. Check that the mounting bracket is firmly fixed and there is 0.5 m clear space around the detector.
What should I do if the smoke detector is faulty?
If the device fails the functional test or shows any fault (e.g., continuous alarm without smoke, low battery signal), contact Bosch customer service at 00800 8437 6278. The product does not contain user-serviceable parts; do not open it. In case of a fault, the entire smoke detector must be replaced.
