Frequently Asked Questions - S5 NiSi

How to install the adapter on the lens?

Turn the locking ring counterclockwise to open the ring. Place the adapter on the lens, aligning the pins with the lens hood notches. Then turn the ring clockwise to tighten, and lock it with the security screw.

Can I use a circular filter without the square filters?

Yes, you can use a circular filter alone with the adapter. Screw it onto the front of the adapter using the rotation wheel. You can then rotate the filter 360°.

How many filters can I stack?

The system is designed for a circular filter and two square filters of 150mm without vignetting. An additional slot can be added, but with a risk of vignetting.

Is the filter holder compatible with other filter brands?

The NiSi S5 is designed for 150mm system filters with 2 mm thickness. It is compatible with square/rectangular filters of this standard, regardless of brand, as long as they meet these dimensions.

How to clean the filter holder?

Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the aluminum. Avoid harsh chemicals that could damage the surface. Do not immerse in water.

Is there a risk of vignetting?

With the standard configuration (1 circular filter + 2 square filters), there is no vignetting on a full rotation. Adding an additional slot may cause vignetting.

Is the filter holder weather-resistant?

Yes, the filter holder has been tested to withstand temperatures from -65°C to 210°C. It is made of aluminum, robust, but it is advised to avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.

How to attach the filter holder to the adapter?

Pull the latch of the filter holder, place the two pegs into the notches of the adapter, then release the latch. Make sure the filter holder is securely engaged.

Can I use filters of 2 mm thickness?

Yes, the S5 filter holder is compatible with 150mm system filters of 2 mm thickness. Thicker filters may not insert properly.

The NiSi S5 filter holder system has been designed based on the patented technology of the V5 PRO. This holder system allows the use of an integrated PRO CPL and two 150mm filters without vignetting through 360 degrees of rotation. It also includes a rounded screw-in thread with an external rotation wheel. This allows the individual use of a CPL, round ND filter or UV filter.

Adapter Installation

- Rotate the locking ring anticlockwise and make sure that the contractible cycle is at widest bore.

• Install the adapter by inserting the four marked points into the groove of the lens hood.

- Rotate the locking ring clockwise and ensure that it firmly secured.

- Tighten the locking screw.

Installation with a circular filter

1. Place the circular filter on the front surface of the adapter while turning anticlockwise with the wheel held secure. Check that the filter is firmly screwed in by rotating the filter clockwise. It should rotate freely without coming loose.

1. Install the adapter with the circular filter in place (See page 11).

3 Fixed point Knob

1. Place the two fixed points of the filter holder onto the adapter securely and pull the knob.

Check that the holder is securely installed by rotating it to and fro.

4 Wheel

1. Rotate the wheel and adjust the circular filter to the desired configuration.

1. Insert the square or rectangular filter into the clip and test it before shooting.

Installation without a circular filter

1. Install the adapter onto the lens (please see page 11).

Note: 1. The S5 filter holder system is suitable for filters 150mm in width and 2mm in thickness.
2. The holders all made of aluminium which can be noisy while rotating.
3. The holder has been designed for the use of 1 circular and 2 square/rectangular filters. An additional clip may be added but this will result in some vignetting.
4. The holder has been tested to be durable between -149°F and 410°F.
