Maintenance

• Place the unit on a level surface away from sources of direct sunlight or excessive heat.
• Protect your furniture when placing your unit on a natural wood and lacquered finish. A cloth or other protective material should be placed between it and the furniture.
• Clean your unit with a soft cloth moistened only with mild soap and water. Stronger cleaning agents, such as Benzine, thinner or similar materials can damage the surface of the unit.

However, your equipment might cause TV or radio interference even when it is operating properly. To eliminate interference you can try one or more of the following corrective measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.
• Increase the distance between the equipment and the radio or TV.
• Use outlets on different electrical circuits for the equipment and the radio or TV.

To open the iP45, grasp the front lid of the unit and gently pull upwards and release into lid rest.

To close, pull lid upwards and gently press bottom edge towards rear hinge.

2: Connect to AC power

Attach AC adaptor cable to the DC jack on back of the iP45 and plug the other end into a working wall socket to play and charge iPhone/iPod and to charge the internal battery.

Select the proper insert for your iPhone or iPod from the table below and place in dock. Gently place iPhone/iPod into dock (iPhone/iPod must not be in a "skin" or case). iPhone/iPod will charge while docked. Press the ▶Button on the iP45 to play your iPhone/iPod.

- To set time manually: move the DST switch on rear of unit to -1 or +1 (subtracts or adds an hour for standard time or daylight saving time).

Getting Started

Thank you for purchasing the iP45. Designed specifically to work with your iPhone and iPod, this system provides high quality audio performance that brings out the best in your music and lets you wake and sleep to it anywhere. Please read this instruction carefully before operating the iP45 and keep it for future reference.

Connect AC Adaptor

Connect the AC adaptor cable plug into the DC jack on the back of the system, then plug the AC adaptor into a working outlet. While connected to AC power, the iP45 will charge your docked iPhone or iPod as well as the internal lithium ion battery until fully charged.

Installing/Replacing the Clock Backup Battery

This model is equipped with a battery back up circuit that will maintain the time and alarm time settings, as well as the radio station preset memory settings and EQ settings, in the event of a temporary power interruption. The battery back up circuit will also operate the buzzer alarm to wake you up even if the power is out at the selected wake up time. The battery back up circuit requires one CR2032 lithium battery, included. The lithium battery was included in the package with this instruction manual.

To install the backup battery:

1. Make sure unit is connected to AC power, otherwise you will lose settings during battery installation.
2. Close the lid and place the unit upside-down on a flat surface to expose the backup battery compartment.
3. Remove the battery compartment cover by sliding it in the direction of the arrow as illustrated.
4. Insert the included CR2032 battery in the backup battery compartment with the "+" side facing up, as illustrated.
5. Replace the battery compartment cover. Place the unit right side up, open the lid, and confirm that the backup battery icon is not flashing in the display.

When the backup battery is getting weak the Low Backup Battery Indicator will begin flashing in the display. When you see this flashing indicator you should replace the backup battery as soon as possible. Purchase a replacement CR2032 battery, available wherever batteries are sold, and follow steps 1 through 4 above to install the replacement battery.

IMPORTANT: When replacing the backup battery be sure to have the unit connected to the AC outlet to maintain all of your settings, otherwise it will be necessary to reset the time, alarm time, radio presets, and EQ settings after the battery is replaced.

Note: Make sure you dispose of battery properly (see your local regulations).

WARNING: Lithium batteries can explode or cause burns if disassembled, shorted, recharged, exposed to water, fire, or high temperatures. Do not place loose batteries in a pocket, purse, or other container containing metal objects, mix with used or other battery types, or store with hazardous or combustible materials. Store in cool, dry, ventilated area. Follow applicable laws and regulations for transport and disposal.

Charging the Internal Battery

Your iP45 comes with an internal lithium ion battery for portable operation. As noted above, the internal battery charges when the unit is connected to AC power. A battery status indicator is located to the right of the clock display. When the indicator is low and flashing, you will need to connect the iP45 to AC power to recharge the battery. When the indicator is full and steady (not flashing), the battery is fully charged.

Note: the iP45 will not charge an iPhone or iPod while operating on battery power.

End-Of-Life Battery Disposal Instructions

This device uses a Lithium-ion battery that should last the lifetime of the device. If you suspect your battery may be dead, try charging it several times. If the battery does not recharge, please contact us for repair information. Please do NOT attempt to change the battery yourself. If the battery has died and you do not want Manufacturer to replace your battery, you should follow the disposal instructions below.

Consult local laws and regulations for proper battery disposal in your region. If there are no local regulations concerning battery disposal, please dispose of the device in a waste bin for electronic devices.

Caution: The Battery used in this device may present a risk of fire, explosion or chemical burn if mistreated

Battery shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire, or the like. Do not use or charge the battery if it appears to be leaking, discolored, deformed, or in any way abnormal. Do not leave your battery discharged or unused for extended periods of time. When batteries are misused, they may explode or leak, causing burns and personal injury. If your battery leaks, use normal precaution and discard the battery immediately.

Setting Up the iP45

Install iPod/iPhone Inserts

Your iP45 comes with a set of inserts to ensure your iPhone or iPod fits properly in the dock.

To place an insert:

1. Select the insert for your iPhone/iPod (see table on page 1).
2. Gently press the iPhone/iPod insert into the dock.
3. Carefully place your iPhone/iPod into the dock. The iPhone/iPod must not be in a case or "skin".
4. To remove/replace an insert, first remove your iPhone/iPod then press down the insert latch, grip the insert and pull gently upwards.

Setting the Clock

Setting the Time and Calendar using iPhone/iPod Time Sync

Time sync mode allows you to sync the iP45 to the time and calendar from your iPhone or recent models of iPod like iPod Touch, iPod Nano and iPod Classic (older models such as iPod Mini do not support this feature).

1. Make sure your iPhone or iPod is properly docked. Press the ⏻ Button located on the right. "SYNC" will appear on the display, indicating sync function is in progress.
2. After sync is complete, the display will show the current time and date on your iPhone/iPod clock and two beeps will confirm time sync is done.
3. If time sync fails, 2 second long beeps sound and the unit exits time sync mode. Try using a different iPhone/iPod to attempt syncing or set time manually (see below).

NOTE: The iPhone is constantly updated to current time via cell phone towers. The time on your iPod is only accurate to the last time it was synced to a computer's possible to have up to 59 seconds difference between the iP45 and synced iPhone/iPod.

Setting Time and Calendar Manually

1. Set the DST Switch located on the back of the unit to +1 to add one hour or to -1 to subtract an hour to account for daylight saving time or standard time
2. Press and hold the ⏻ Button until the hour display flashes. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to set the correct hour (press and hold for rapid advance). Remember to set the correct AM or PM time. The PM Indicator is located at the upper left side of the time digits; there is no AM indicator.
3. Press the 📄 Alarm Button at any time during clock setting to toggle the display between 24 hour (military) and 12 hour (standard) display mode. The PM indicator will not appear when display is in 24 hour mode.
4. Press the ⏻ Button. The minutes will flash. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to set the current minutes.
5. Press the ⏻ Button. The year will flash. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to set the current year.
6. Press the ⏻ Button. The date will flash. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to select the current date (press and hold to enter fast scroll mode).
7. Press the ⏻ Button again (or no button press within 10 seconds) to exit the clock setting mode. 2 beeps will confirm clock setting is complete.

Using the Alarm

Setting the Alarm

1. Press and hold the 🔒 Alarm Button until the alarm icon and alarm hour flashes on the display.
2. Press the ◀ or ▶ Button to set the desired alarm hour. Remember to set the correct AM or PM alarm time. The PM Indicator is located to the upper left side of the time digits; there is no AM indicator.

3. Press the 📋 Button. The minutes will flash. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to set the desired alarm minutes.

4. Press the ⬆ Button. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to set the alarm schedule. 7 days = everyday, 5 days = weekdays and 2 days = weekends only.

5. Press the 🔒 Button to select wake to sound source. Press the ◀ or ▶ Button to cycle through Alert Modes: iPod/iPhone, custom iHome Playlist, FM radio or buzzer (you cannot wake to aux audio device).

- To wake to a custom playlist, you must create a playlist and name it "iHome".

1. Press the 📋 Alarm Button (or no button within 10 seconds) to exit alarm setting mode. Two beeps will confirm you have completed Alarm setting mode. The alarm will be armed, indicated by the alarm icon

Note: If iPod/iPhone or FM radio are wake-to source and iP45 detects no sound for around 30 seconds (or if no iPod/iPhone is detected or if AC power is unplugged), the buzzer will sound instead and iPod/iPhone will power down.

Review, Arming and Disarming Alarm (Turn Alarm Function On and Off)

To review the current alarm time and arm the alarm or to disarm the alarm, just press the 🔒 Alarm Button as needed. When the alarm is armed, the alarm icon and current alarm settings appear. When the alarm is sounding, press the 🔒 Alarm Button to turn it off and cancel alarm mode.

Resetting the Alarm to Come on the Next Day

When the alarm is sounding, press the ⏻ Button to stop the alarm and reset it to come on the following day at the same time.

Sure Alarm

The iP45 has a sure alarm feature. If you have installed the backup battery, the buzzer alarm will still sound in the event of power failure or if the internal battery is completely discharged.

Snooze/Dimmer

The iP45 has a programmable snooze.

1. Press and hold the snooze button during normal operation until the display flashes. Press the ◀ or ▶ button to set the snooze time between 1 and 29 minutes. Press the snooze button (or no button within 10 seconds). 2 beeps will confirm snooze setting is complete.
2. When the alarm is sounding, press the snooze button to silence the alarm for the set snooze time. The alarm will sound again once the snooze time has elapsed. You can press snooze several times during the 1 hour alarm cycle.
3. Press the snooze button during normal operation to step through the display dimmer settings: High, medium, low and off.

Listening to iPod/iPhone

1. Select and place the insert for your iPhone or iPod model. Gently insert an already playing iPhone or iPod. The iP45 will automatically turn on and you will hear the music playing from your iPod/iPhone.
   Note: If the playing song/music loudness is too low on the iPod itself, the iP45 may not detect that the iPod/iPhone is in play mode. Press the ▶Button to play it.
2. Press the ◀or ▶Button to change iPod/iPhone track forward/reverse.
3. When the iPhone/iPod is docked and in standby mode, press the ▶Button to play it.
4. When the iPhone or iPod is in play mode, press the ▶Button to pause play; press again to resume play.
5. Press the BonGiovi Button to activate the DPS active digital processing circuit. Press again to turn off.
6. Press the Volume 🔊 or 🔒 Button to adjust the iP45 volume.
7. Press the eq Button as needed to cycle through treble and bass sound settings. Press the ◀ or ▶ Button to adjust settings for best sound.
8. To turn off the unit, press the ⏻ Button. Your iPhone/iPod will continue charging while in the dock if unit is connected to AC power. It will not charge when running on internal battery.

Listening to FM Radio

Setting up the Antenna

Insert the FM Antenna plug into the Aux-in/FM Antenna Jack on the back of the unit. Extend the wire antenna fully for best reception. Do not strip, alter or attach to other antennas.

Tuning and Playing the FM Radio

1. Press the Radio/AUX Button as needed to turn iP45 on and toggle between FM radio and aux-in modes. Select FM Radio mode. The last selected radio station will play and the frequency will appear in the display.
2. Press the ◀ or ▶ Button to tune radio to a desired station. Pressing and holding the ◀ or ▶ Button (2 sec. then release) will seek the next clear FM radio station.
3. Press the Volume 🔊 or 🔒 Button to adjust the volume setting.
4. If needed, move the radio mono/stereo switch located on back of the unit to mono to improve reception/signal.
5. To turn off the unit, press the ⏻ Button. iPhone/iPod will continue charging while in the dock.

Setting and using FM Presets

You can set and save up to 6 radio station presets in memory.

1. To set a station as a preset, enter radio mode. Press and hold the preset button. A number will flash indicating the preset number being set and the accompanying frequency. Press the ◀ or ▶ Button to change the station (hold as above for station seek). Press the preset button to confirm the station as a preset. To review your presets, press and hold the preset button until the display flashes, then press the ◀ or ▶ Button. Press the preset Button again to exit preset mode.

Setting FM Radio Frequency/Range to Use iP45 in Other Countries

Different regions of the world use different FM radio frequency steps and ranges. You will need to select the one that matches the standards in your region (USA, EUROPE, JAPAN, AUSTRALIA, or CHINA). The default setting is USA; if you live in the US, you may skip this section.

1. Make sure the iP45 is OFF (not playing in any mode). Press and hold the Radio/AUX Button for about 5 seconds until "USA" flashes in the lower part of the display. Press the ◀ or ▶ Button to select your region (EU=Europe, JPN=Japan, AUS=Australia, CHN=China).
2. Press the Radio/AUX Button again (or no button within 5 seconds) to exit the radio frequency setting mode. Two beeps will confirm the setting is complete.

Using the Aux Line-In Jack with Other Audio Devices

The iP45 has an FM antenna/aux line-in jack that lets you play other audio devices through it. Unplug FM antenna to use aux line-in jack.

1. Plug one end of a standard 3.5mm audio patch cord (not included) into the headphone or line-out jack on your audio device and the other end of the patch cord into the iP45 aux line-in Jack, located on the rear of the unit.
2. Press the Radio/AUX Button until "AUX-IN" appears in the display, indicating aux mode is active.
3. Turn on and play your device (device must be controlled independently of the iP45).
4. Press the Volume 🔊 or 🔒 Button to adjust the system volume. Adjust the output volume on your device if needed.
5. To turn off the unit, press the ⏻ Button. Please remember to turn off your device, too.

Using the Sleep Timer

The iP45 has an adjustable sleep timer that lets you sleep to your current sound source (iPhone, iPod or FM radio) before shutting off after the specified time.

1. Press the sleep button as needed to cycle through the sleep time settings: 90, 60, 30, 15 minutes or OFF (cancels sleep mode). Press the sleep button during sleep operation to review the sleep time remaining.
2. Press the Volume 🔊 or 🔒 Button to adjust the sleep volume. This is separate from the unit's standard volume setting.
3. To turn off the unit, press the ⏻ Button.

Using the Remote auto/on Switch

The iP45 has a remote auto/on switch located on the back of the unit. Slide the switch to the AUTO position to save battery power when traveling or operating on the internal battery. AUTO disables remote operation when operating on the internal battery. Slide switch to ON position for normal remote operation.

A Consumer Guide to Product Safety

IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

When used in the directed manner, this unit has been designed and manufactured to assure your personal safety. However, improper use can result in potential electrical shock or fire hazards. Please read all safety and operating instructions carefully before installation and use. Keep these instructions handy for future reference. Take special note, and adhere to all warnings on the unit and in the instruction and service manual.

1. Water and Moisture – The unit should not be used near water. For example, near a bathtub, washbowl, kitchen sink, laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, etc.
2. Ventilation – The unit should be situated so that its location or position does not interfere with its proper ventilation. For example, it should not be situated on a bed, sofa, rug, or similar surface that may block the ventilation openings; or placed in a built-in installation, such as bookcase or cabinet that may impede the flow of air through the ventilation openings.
3. Heat – The unit should be situated away from heat source such as radiators, heat register, stoves, or other appliances (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
4. Power Sources – The unit should be connected to a power supply only of the type described in the operating instructions or as marked on the appliance.
5. Power Cord Protection – Power supply cord should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them. It is always best to have a clear area from where the cord exits the unit to where it is plugged into an AC outlet.

6. Cleaning – The unit should be cleaned only as recommended by the manufacturer.

7. Object and Liquid Entry – Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquids are not spilled into the enclosure through openings.

8. Attachments – Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer.

9. Lightning and Power Surge Protection – Unplug the unit from the wall outlet and disconnect the antenna or cable system during a lightning storm or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges.

10. Overloading – Do not overload wall outlets, extension cords, or integral convenience receptacles as this can result in a risk of fire or electric shock.

11. Damage Requiring Service – The appliance should be serviced by qualified service personnel when:

A. The power-supply cord or plug has been damaged.
B. Objects have fallen into or liquid has been spilled into the enclosure.
C. The unit has been exposed to rain.
D. The unit has been dropped or the enclosure damaged.
E. The unit exhibits a marked change in performance or does not operate normally.

1. Antenna - Do not connect an external antenna to the unit (other than that provided).

2. Periods of Nonuse – If the unit is to be left unused for an extended period of time, such as a month or longer, the power cord should be unplugged and take out batteries from the unit to prevent damage or corrosion.

3. Servicing – The user should not attempt to service the unit beyond that described in the user's operating instructions. All other servicing should be referred to qualified service personnel.

Troubleshooting

iPod/iPhone does not respond to the unit	iPod/iPhone is not docked properly	Remove your iPod/iPhone from the dock and check for obstruction on the connectors in the dock and on your iPod. Then reseat it in the dock.
	Your iPod/iPhone software is too old	Upgrade software on your iPod/iPhone via iTunes
	iPod/iPhone is locked up	Please make sure your iPod/iPhone is working properly before dock into the unit. Please refer to your iPod manual for detail.
	Using 3 ^rd generation iPod	iP45 doesn't support 3 ^rd generation iPod
iPod/iPhone didn't charge up	iPod/iPhone is not docked properly	Remove your iPod/iPhone from the dock and check for obstruction on the connectors in the dock and on your iPod/iPhone. Then reseat it in the dock.
	iPod/iPhone is locked up/frozen	Please make sure your iPod/iPhone is working properly before dock into the unit. Please refer to your iPod manual for detail.
	iPod/iPhone battery has problem
Sound is distorted	Volume level is set too high	Decrease the volume.
	Sound source is distorted	If iPod/iPhone original sound source is poor quality, distortion and noise are easily noticed with high-power speakers. Try a different music file.
		Try reducing the output volume and EQ settings such as bass boost on the device itself.
Remote control doesn't work	Battery is weak or dead	Replace with new battery
	Remote Control is too far away or not aimed properly toward the device	Point the Remote Control toward the unit and use within 15 feet of the unit.
	Remote switch is in AUTO position	Move Remote switch to ON position
Unit is/feels warm	This is normal. The unit has a rechargeable battery and charging circuit that may make the unit feel warm to the touch when in charging mode.	No need for action, operate the unit as usual

Limited 1 Year Warranty Information

iHome Products, a division of SDI Technologies Inc. (hereafter referred to as SDI Technologies), warrants this product to be free from defects in workmanship and materials, under normal use and conditions, for a period of one year from the date of original purchase.

Should this product fail to function in a satisfactory manner, it is best to first return it to the store where it was originally purchased. Should this fail to resolve the matter and service still be required by reason of any defect or malfunction during the warranty period, SDI Technologies will repair or, at its discretion, replace this product without charge (except for a \20.00 charge for handling, packing, return UPS/postage, and insurance). This decision is subject to verification of the defect or malfunction upon delivery of this product to the Factory Service Center listed below. The product must include proof of purchase, including date of purchase. The fee for service without proof of purchase is \50.00.

Before returning this product for service, please first replace the batteries (if applicable) with fresh ones, as exhausted or defective batteries are the most common cause of problems encountered.

If service is still required:

1. Remove the batteries (if applicable) and pack the unit in a well padded, heavy corrugated box.
2. Enclose a photocopy of your sales receipt, credit card statement, or other proof of the date of purchase, if within the warranty period.

3. Enclose a check or money order payable to the order of SDI Technologies, for the sum of \20.00 (\50.00 without proof of purchase).

4. Send the unit prepaid and insured, to the Factory Service Center listed below.

Disclaimer of Warranty

NOTE: This warranty is valid only if the product is used for the purpose for which it was designed. It does not cover (i) products which have been damaged by negligence or willful actions, misuse or accident, or which have been modified or repaired by unauthorized persons; (ii) cracked or broken cabinets, or units damaged by excessive heat; (iii) damage to digital media players, CD's or tape cassettes (if applicable); (iv) the cost of shipping this product to the Factory Service Center and its return to the owner.

This warranty is valid only in the United States of America and does not extend to owners of the product other than to the original purchaser. In no event will SDI Technologies or any of its affiliates, contractors, resellers, their officers, directors, shareholders, members or agents be liable to you or any third party for any consequential or incidental damages, any lost profits, actual, exemplary or punitive damages. (Some states do not allow limitations on implied warranties or exclusion of consequential damages, so these restrictions may not apply to you.) This warranty gives you specific legal rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.

Your acknowledgment and agreement to fully and completely abide by the above mentioned disclaimer of warranty is contractually binding to you upon your transfer of currency (money order, cashier's check, or credit card) for purchase of your SDI Technologies product.
