Frequently Asked Questions - EVO Etymotic

How do I achieve the best noise isolation with my Etymotic EVO?
Insert the earpieces deeply into the ear canal using a 'twist and push' motion. Choose the correct ear tip size (foam or silicone) for a snug fit. Proper insertion can provide up to 35 dB noise reduction.
Can I replace the cable on the EVO?
Yes, the cable is detachable and replaceable. It uses a standard MMCX connector on the earpiece end. You can purchase a replacement cable from Etymotic or third-party sellers.
How do I clean the earwax filters?
Unscrew the nozzle from the earpiece and remove the old filter. Replace with a new Etymotic wax guard filter. Do not attempt to clean reusable filters as they are disposable.
What is the impedance of the EVO?
The EVO has an impedance of 47 ohms, making it suitable for use with smartphones, computers, and dedicated headphone amplifiers.
Are the ear tips interchangeable with other brands?
The EVO uses a standard 4mm nozzle, so many universal ear tips (silicone or foam) from other brands will fit, but for best performance and isolation, Etymotic recommends using their own ear tips.
How do I store my EVO when not in use?
Store the IEMs in the provided hard case to protect them from dust and physical damage. Avoid wrapping the cable tightly around the earpieces.
Why does one side sound quieter?
Check for earwax buildup in the nozzle or filter. Also ensure the cable is fully inserted into both earpieces. If the issue persists, try a different source device.
Can I use the EVO for live monitoring?
Yes, the EVO provides accurate, neutral sound and high isolation, making it suitable for stage monitoring. However, note that it is a universal fit IEM, not custom-molded.
What is the warranty period?
Etymotic provides a 2-year limited warranty covering defects in materials and workmanship. Keep your proof of purchase.
How do I replace the foam ear tips?
Remove the old foam tip by pulling it off the nozzle. Roll the new foam tip tightly between your fingers, insert it into the ear canal, and hold until it expands. Ensure a secure fit.

USER MANUAL EVO Etymotic

A deep seal in the ear canal is essential. If the eartips do not seal properly there will be a loss of bass and outside sounds will not be blocked adequately. Use the eartips that seal best.

PRECISION MEETS AUDIO

The Etymotic Evo is truly where precision meets audio. For more than 30 years, the engineers at Etymotic have worked diligently to make the highest-quality and truest sounding earphones on the market. After all, Etymotic means "true to the ear".

The Evo is the culmination of that progress and tireless work.

The Etymotic Evo is a balanced armature 3-driver, 2-way design that incorporates two low frequency drivers and a separate single driver to handle the mid and high frequencies. By using a 2-way design, the Evo produces a tight, true low-end sub-bass while providing a pristine frequency response across Etymotic's signature spectrum.

CAUTION

EVO earphones exclude most external sounds. It is unsafe to use in-ear earphones while operating a motorized vehicle, operating machinery, bicycling or jogging, because you may not be alerted to potential danger.

In rare instances an ear tip may come off in the ear canal when removing the earphone. If this should occur and the ear tip cannot be easily removed, it is recommended that you promptly contact an audiologist or other medical professional. A professional can use blunt tweezers to remove the ear tip.

Consult an audiologist or physician if you have excessive ear wax, difficulty inserting the ear tips, or discomfort after prolonged use.

Do not listen at excessively loud levels. Research confirms that earphones that seal the ear canal allow listeners to listen at safer levels.

Noise-induced hearing loss is a function of exposure time, the average sound level and the peak output of very loud sounds. A sealed ear tip and lower listening levels allow for longer periods of safe listening.

HOW TO CHANGE FILTERS

EVO earphones have special filters that smooth the frequency response and prevent earwax from entering the earphones. Filters are located at the end of the earphone and are visible when the eartip is removed. If a filter becomes clogged, it should be replaced. A dirty filter will reduce earphone output. The filter should be changed if loudness decreases or the sound quality declines. Filters are NOT reusable.

The eartips that are most comfortable are the best choice, but they should seal well in the ears for best noise isolation and sound quality.

HOW TO INSERT EAR TIPS

IMPORTANT: Sound quality, full bass response and noise isolation all depend on a good eartip seal in the ear canal.

While pulling up and out on the back of the ear carefully insert the earphone. Twist the earphone until eartip enters ear canal and outside noise is blocked out.

Etymotic EVO - HOW TO INSERT EAR TIPS - 1

Remove earphones with a twisting motion to gradually break the seal. Do not pull on cable to remove earphones.

When changing eartips make sure the eartip is securely on the stem of the earphone. NOTE: Hold the earphone body—not the cable connector—when removing the eartips to avoid accidentally detaching cable.
