FOR YOUR SAFETY
- Carefully read these instructions before using this appliance for the first time.
- Do not immerse in water or other liquids. Ensure that the outside of the appliance does not get wet and do not use it with wet hands.
- Keep out of reach of children. This appliance is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons without supervision. Young children must be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handle. Take special care to avoid contact with steam exiting the spout or when opening the lid after the kettle has recently boiled. Do not lift the lid when boiling water in the kettle. Do not fill past the MAX water level as water may be expelled when boiling. It is recommended to fill to a point slightly below the maximum level for safety.
- Use this appliance for its intended use. This appliance is intended for household use only and not for commercial or industrial use.
• This appliance has been designed to heat water only.
- The appliance should not be used outdoors, placed near a hot gas or electrical burner or placed in a heated oven.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter.
- Do not fill the kettle while it is still on the base.
- Use only with the base provided.
- If appliance is to be used by a third party, please supply the instruction manual with it.
- No liability can be accepted for any damage caused by non-compliance with these instructions or any other improper use or mishandling.
FOR ELECTRICAL SAFETY
• This appliance must be earthed.
• This appliance must be connected to a 220-240 V AC 50 Hz mains supply.
• An appliance should never be left unattended when plugged in.
CAUTION: This kettle should be used with a residual current device (safety switch) to lesson the risk of scalding or other injury from hot water that may be ejected if the heating element ruptures. Disregard this marking if your home is fitted with a residual current device (safety switch).
- An appliance dropped or damaged should not be used until examined by a service engineer.
- Do not abuse the power cord. Never carry the appliance by the power cord or pull it to disconnect it from the mains outlet. Disconnect the power cord from the mains outlet by grasping the plug and pulling it out.
- Do not permit the power cord to come in contact with hot objects.
- Please ask a service engineer to replace a worn or damaged power cord immediately with an approved lead of the same size and type.
- If using an extension cord with your appliance, check that it is correctly wired and rated for its use.
- Do not attempt to service this appliance yourself. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel.

• After unpacking the kettle remove all packaging from the appliance.
- Clean the body of the kettle using a soft damp cloth and dry it afterwards with a dry towel.
- Place the kettle on a level, firm surface. Keep away from other heat sources.
- Fill the kettle to just below the maximum water level on the water gauge. Boil the water. Drain this water away to ensure the kettle is clean. This task may have to be repeated to remove any taste of plastic from the water.
• The appliance then is ready for use.
• To fill the kettle, switch off power at mains outlet, remove the kettle from the base and fill with the required amount of cold water. Do not overfill. The kettle may be filled through the spout or through the lid after activating trigger switch to raise the lid.
- Ensure that the water level is between the 'min' and 'max' water level indicators. Never fill above the maximum level as boiling water may be ejected. It is recommended to fill slightly below this point.
- Do not over fill as boiling water may be ejected.
- Do not under fill, as the electric element will be damaged. Do not operate unless element is fully immersed in water.
- Securely close the lid in order for the kettle to switch off automatically on boiling. The kettle will not switch off and may overheat if the lid is not firmly closed.
- Return kettle to the power base ensuring alignment over the center of the power base. Switch on power at the mains outlet.
- Depress the on/off switch to the on position. (Mark "1") The indicator lamp will light up indicating that heating has commenced.
- The kettle will automatically switch off when the water has reached boiling point. At the same time the indicator lamp will go out and the on / off switch will return to the off position. (Mark "0")
- The kettle can be switched off at any time manually by directly depressing the on/off switch to the "off" position (Mark "0")
- Remember to switch off the power at the mains outlet before removing kettle from the power base or when kettle is not in use.
- The kettle can be removed from the power base by firmly grasping the handle then lifting the kettle vertically clear of the power base. Take special care when moving the appliance containing hot water.
WARNING. Do not force the switch back to the "on" position immediately after boiling as this may damage the switch.
HOW TO CLEAN YOUR KETTLE
• After use and before cleaning, remove plug from the mains supply and wait for kettle to cool.
• To clean the outer surface of the kettle, use a soft damp cloth and dry the appliance afterwards with a dry towel.
- Do not put any detergents or any cleaning agents into the kettle.
- Do not expose kettle to direct sunlight as the quality of the kettle finish may deteriorate.
• To remove and clean filter. Unplug kettle from the mains outlet and allow it to
cool. To remove the filter, open the lid, grasp filter between fore finger and thumb and lift out. Gently brush the filter with a soft brush (such as an old toothbrush) under running water. Do not use a sharp object that can cut or damage the filter mesh. In hard water areas scale may build up on the filter affecting the taste and appearance of your beverages. To remove any scale deposits, remove the filter from its position and place loosely in the kettle. Boil in a vinegar solution as described in the next section titled 'Descaling'.

DESCALING
- In order to retain the performance of your kettle, it is important to periodically remove calcium deposits that build up inside the kettle.
• Half fill the kettle with clean water.
- Add 30ml of white vinegar to the kettle.
- Boil the mixture and allow it to stand for 30 seconds. Repeat this step two or more times.
- Drain this water away.
- Rinse the inside of the kettle with clean water.
- Fill the kettle with clean water up to the slightly below the "max" level and bring to boil. Drain this water away to ensure that the kettle is clean and that all remaining scale and vinegar has been removed.
