You now possess a refrigerator/freezer combination that meets all the requirements of the standards laid down for such equipment, including the star designation. This appliance is designed to operate at room temperatures between +10°C and +32°C. In addition, intensive type testing and thorough supervision in manufacture by the German Association of Electrical Engineers (VDE), ensures that this appliance is safe within the meaning of the law concerning technical equipment.

The refrigeration circuit has been checked for leackage.

This appliance conforms to E.E.C. directive Nr. 76/889/EEC on radiointerference.

Installation

The appliance should be installed in a dry, well ventilated room. It is so designed that no space need be left, either behind or where it comes against other kitchen furniture.

The ventilating grille in the plinth and the air slit in the top of the appliance are provided to ensure that the refrigerating unit is adequately ventilated. On no account should these openings be covered over.

The appliance should stand firmly. Always ensure that the door can be opened through 90°. The appliance should only be connected to a 220/240 volt alternating current supply. You should check the information on the nameplate of your electricity meter. 220/240 V \~ means 220/240 V alternating current.

Tips for saving energy

Avoid installing in the vicinity of heaters or in the direct rays of the sun. If you have to install near a heater (e.g. a stove), you should fit heat resisting insulating material or ensure that there is adequate free space between.

Do not put hot food in the refrigerator.

Do not open the door unnecessarily and shut it again as quickly as possible.

Do not select too low an inside temperature. Clean the condenser and motor (at the back of the appliance) from time to time, e. g. with a brush.

Starting up and adjusting the temperature "WARNING - THIS APPLIANCE MUST BE EARTHED"

IMPORTANT

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

GREEN & YELLOW - EARTH. BLUE - NEUTRAL. BROWN - LIVE

As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this appliance may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug - PROCEED AS FOLLOWS:

The wire which is coloured GREEN & YELLOW must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the Letter E or by the earth symbol ⊕ or coloured GREEN or GREEN & YELLOW.

The wire which is coloured BROWN must be connected to the terminal which is marked L or coloured RED.

The wire which is coloured BLUE must be connected to the terminal which is marked N or coloured BLACK.

As with all new equipment, your appliance will have a certain new smell about it, so clean the accessories and the interior of the cabinet (see cleaning and maintenance).

Plug the appliance into a properly installed power socket that has an earth connection (SCHUKO socket).

Freezing compartment

The freezing compartment is switched on by operating the switch (5). Your freezing compartment is then operating and the green pilot lamp (4) will light.

The temperature control (1) is mounted together with the control and operating elements. The temperature control can be steplessly adjusted up to 7 (coldest setting - lowest temperature).

At setting 7, it is ensured that temperatures of -18^ will be achieved in all areas at ambient temperatures of up to +32^ (89.6°F). At lower ambient temperatures, these internal temperatures will be achieved at lower thermostat settings.

Refrigerator compartment

When the knob of the refrigerator compartment temperature control (situated in the top right hand corner of the refrigerator compartment) is in position „0“, the refrigeration and the lighting of the refrigerator compartment is switched off. To switch on, the knob must be turned away from position „0“. The tempera-

ture in the refrigerator compartment is then controlled automatically. The temperature control can be steplessly adjusted up to 7 (coldest setting - lowest temperature).

This is how you should use your freezer compartment

Storage

Yor freezer compartment is for the storage of frozen fresh foodstuffs in accordance with its designation.

Before first filling the freezer compartment with ready frozen foodstuffs(fresh frozen foods), the red pilot lamp must have gone out and/or an internal temperature of -18^ must have been achieved.

The storage baskets make the frozen foods readily accessible. Ice creams and fatty foods should be stored in the lower part of the compartment.

Freezing

If you should wish to freeze foodstuffs yourself, then you should operate the „SUPER" switch (3) some 4–24 hours (according to quantity) beforehand, then put the perfect and airtight packed goods in the pre-freezing compartment, or, after first removing the upper storage basket, with their larger surface against the evaporator.

Care should be taken to ensure that every package comes in contact with the cooling surface as the goods will then freeze more quickly through to the centre.

Small quantities can also be frozen in the basket. Care should always be taken to keep fresh materials away from goods that are already frozen.

Only fresh foodstuffs should be used for freezing. The smaller the quantity that is frozen at any one time, the better will be the quality.

The freezing capacity of your appliance can be found on the nameplate. The capacity given there should not be exceeded. Drinks containing CO_2 should not be frozen. When freezing every day, it is desirable to reduce the maximum capacity that is given, in order to achieve a high quality of frozen food.

No partially or wholly thawed goods should be refrozen unless they have first been boiled, roast or grilled. Note should also be taken of the information in the freezer book or freezer calendar and of the information given on the packages of frozen goods.

After about 24 hours, the „Super" setting can be switched off. If more goods are to be frozen, the previously given settings should be maintained.

This is how you should use your refrigerating compartment

Every type of foodstuff requires a different temperature for optimal storage and so, on the last page but one, you will find the illustration „Correct Storage”.

Pilot lamps

The green lamp indicates that the appliance is in operation and it must always be lit.

When the super switch (3) is operated it lights up yellow and indicates that the compressor for the deep-freeze is running continuously in order to achieve the very low temperatures needed for freezing foodstuffs. The red lamp is a temperature monitoring lamp that lights if

a) the storage temperature has not yet been reached (on starting up).

b) the guaranteed storage temperature is no longer maintained (fault).

This lamp can also light up for a while when fresh foodstuffs have been placed in the compartment or if the door has been left open for too long.

Defrosting

During operation, a certain amount of frost will develop on the evaporator of the freezer and refrigerator compartments.

Refrigerator compartment

The cooling panel (evaporator) in this compartment is automatically defrosted - without you needing to do anything. The thawed water is led out of the compartment and is automatically evaporated away. Care should be taken to keep open the hole in the drip catcher.

Freezer compartment

At certain intervals, the freezer compartment of your refrigerator/freezer combination should be defrosted. This is best done when the compartment is empty or has only a small quantity of food stored in it.

Before defrosting, the stored goods should be taken out with their baskets, wrapped in newspapers or a blanket, and stored in a cool place.

Remove the power plug from the socket or isolate the circuit by opening the circuit breaker.

Cleaning and care

When the appliance has been defrosted, it should be cleaned inside and out with a non-abrasive household cleaner and then rinsed with clear water. Organic solvents should not be used for cleaning and hot air blowers should not be used for drying. After cleaning, allow the freezer to air a little.

Shutting down

If you should wish to leave the empty and cleaned appliance out of action for any length of time, then the control knob of the refrigerator compartment should be placed in position "0," and the switch to the "Aus" (off) position. The door should be left slightly ajar.

Non-functioning of the interior lighting

You can replace a defect bulb yourself. Disconnect by removing fuse. The bulb can be reached from the back of the lamp cover. Use only 15 W bulbs.

Faults and customer service

Before calling customer service, please check that the fault does not lie in the pilot lamps which are easy to change.

If, for example, the green lamp should go out while your appliance is in operation, then switch to "Super" and if the yellow lamp lights, this shows that the green lamp is defective.

If, with the switch in the "Super" position, the yellow lamp does not light although the refrigerating unit is running, then the yellow lamp must be defective.

The green and red lamps are plug-in type and can be removed and replaced easily with a screwdriver (see drawing). Switch off unit before removing and replacing lamps. The plug-in type lamps are constructed in such a way that they cannot be intermixed. Replacement lamps are available from Customer Service.

If no lamps are burning, first check whether the power supply has been interrupted (at the power plug, fuse or circuit breaker in the building, general power failure, etc.).

If necessary you should inform your electrician.

If the red lamp lights or if the temperature in the freezer compartment should rise sharply when no new goods have been put in or if the door has not been left open for any length of time, then there is a fault. Switch to the "Super" position, keep the freezer compartment door closed and inform your customer service station immediately. At the same time you should give them the Type and E Number or Ident Number of the appliance which can be found on the nameplate in the refrigerator compartment.

A damaged glass plate can be replaced by glass obtainable from your local glazier.

The glass plate has the following dimensions: Width 525 mm Depth 335 mm Thickness 4 mm

Ask the glazier to grind the edges and corners smooth.
