Center Channel Loudspeaker

UNPACKING
Inspect your speaker carefully after unpacking. If it has been damaged in transit, call your dealer or trucking firm that delivered it for instructions on how to file a claim.
POSITIONING YOUR SPEAKER FOR CENTER CHANNEL APPLICATION
The Infinity Video 1 Center Channel Loudspeaker employs special magnetic shielding surrounding the magnetic structure of the drivers to prevent stray magnetic fields from interfering with the video picture. This permits installation of the speaker either directly above, below or within close proximity to the video monitor without distorting the picture. You will note that the speaker enclosure has a sharp angle which permits installation on the floor, below the video monitor. Proper floor placement should direct the sound from the speaker upward from the floor toward the listener. Refer to diagram 1.
When installing the speaker on the floor, you may wish to fasten the four small feet (supplied in a plastic bag) in order to lift the speaker off the floor. Install the feet to the bottom of the cabinet (in the four corners), approximately one half inch from the ends of the cabinet. Refer to diagram 2.
If you wish to install the speaker on top of the video monitor, you must first fasten two large feet to the bottom rear of the cabinet. These feet will tilt the speaker slightly forward to permit the center channel sound to arrive at the listening position on the proper plane. Refer to diagram 3.
When positioning the speaker on top of the video monitor, it is advisable to keep the front of the speaker at least one inch away from the edge of the monitor. This will prevent the speaker from tipping over and falling to the floor should someone accidentally bump into the video monitor.
ADDITIONAL APPLICATIONS
The Infinity Video 1 Center Channel loudspeaker may also be used in the upright position for the left and right, front and rear channels. In this application, place the speaker on its end (with the slope on the outside) and direct the sound toward the listening position. Refer to diagram 4.
CONNECTING THE SPEAKER FOR CENTER CHANNEL USE
Make sure that all associated equipment is turned off before making the following connections.
If your Infinity Video 1 Center Channel loudspeaker is used as a center channel speaker, connect it to the center channel output on your audio/video receiver or amplifier. Use 16 gauge wire (the lower the number, the heavier the gauge of the wire) and observe polarity. Connect plus (+) on the speaker (red) to the plus (+) terminal on your receiver's center channel output (red). Connect minus (-) on the speaker (black) to the minus (-) terminal on your receiver's center channel output (black). Refer to diagram 5.
CONNECTIONS FOR STEREO USE
If you intend to use two speakers for your video left and right channels, observe the following directions for connecting the speakers to your audio/video receiver.
Use 16 gauge wire (the lower the number, the heavier the gauge

of the wire) and observe polarity. If the wire has polarity coding (a ridge, red insulation, green insulation, one wire is copper and the other is silver, etc.) identify one of the two wires as positive and the other negative. The speakers must be connected in phase, meaning that all the drivers from both the left and right speakers always move in the same direction and at the same time. If the left and right speakers are connected out of phase (the drivers of one speaker system move inward while the drivers of the other system move outward) the result will be cancellation of bass frequencies and a loss of localization and coherency. Refer to diagrams 6 and 7 for correct speaker phasing.
The Video 1 Center Channel loudspeaker also provides superb rear channel performance and should be connected to your audio/video receiver in the same manner as described for left and right connection.
ASSOCIATED COMPONENTS
The choice of associated components in your system is critical and should be made with great care. Here are several suggestions:
- Employ a high powered amplifier. Higher power results not only in cleaner, more open sound but ensures that the speakers will not be harmed by an overdriven amplifier.
- Never operate your system with the bass, treble and loudness controls set to full boost. This places undue strain on the speaker and amplifier. The volume control setting is not a specific indication of the loudness of the speakers. The only important consideration is the loudness level at which the system can be played, regardless of where the volume control is set.
- Whenever changing wires, pulling plugs, etc., always turn off all equipment to prevent transients from entering the speakers. Discuss proper speaker connection with your dealer prior to setting up your system.
CARE OF YOUR SPEAKER SYSTEM
The speaker cabinet is finished in heavy-duty high quality vinyl which requires very little maintenance. Keep the cabinet clean by dusting it occasionally with a damp cloth, or use a good quality cream or spray furniture polish to maintain its original luster. (When using aerosol products, always spray the cloth, not the speaker to help prevent any of the product from drifting onto the drivers.) The grille may be cleaned by gentle vacuuming.

Correct Phase
Correct (in-phase) connection: Plus (red) goes to receiver (+). (This wire is usually ridged on one side.) Minus (black) goes to receiver (-).

DIAGRAM 7:
Incorrect Phase
Incorrect (out-of-phase) connection: Plus-to-minus and minus-to-plus. Results in distorted, "out-of-phase" sound.
IN CASE OF TROUBLE
Before consulting your dealer, INFINITY Service Facility or Factory Service Department, there are tests you can perform to locate and solve possible problems. You can use your amplifier's multiple channels of information for simple trouble-shooting. If the sound quality is distorted, listen to each speaker to check if the fault is present in all. If it is, then the trouble is likely to be elsewhere in your system. If the fault is in one channel only, connect the outputs of your amplifier to different speakers. If the distortion moves to another channel, the fault is not in the speaker.
TROUBLE-SHOOTING THE SPEAKER
If a driver is not working:
Step 1. Remove the driver and check to see that the wires are connected. If they have become loose, reconnect them and put the driver back in place.
Step 2. If the sound from your speaker still seems to be distorted and all of the drivers seem to be operating properly (and you have ascertained that the problem is not in your stereo system's other components), the problem may lie in the passive crossover inside the affected speaker. Call your dealer for advice.

LIMITED WARRANTY
Who is protected by the warranty?
Your Infinity warranty protects the original retail purchaser and all subsequent owners for a period of five (5) years (parts and labor) from any failure as a result of an original manufacturing defect so long as: (1) your Infinity loudspeaker was purchased within the fifty United States or by military personnel from an authorized military outlet and (2) the original dated bill of sale is presented whenever service is required during the warranty period. This warranty does not apply to products purchased elsewhere; other purchasers should contact their local Infinity distributor for warranty information.
What does the Infinity warranty cover?
Except as specified below, this warranty covers all defects in original materials and workmanship. The following are not covered: damage caused by accident, misuse, abuse, neglect, product modification; damage occurring during shipment; damage caused by failure to follow instructions in the owner's manual, including failure to perform recommended periodic or routine maintenance; damage resulting from repairs by someone not authorized by Infinity; claims based upon any misrepresentations by the seller; and any Infinity product on which the serial number has been altered, defaced or removed.
Who pays for what?
During the period of warranty, subject to the above conditions, Infinity will pay all of the labor and material expenses to repair a warrantable defect.
How can warranty service be obtained?
